And of course you can also free up your iPhone storage space by transferring hundreds of important messages from your iPhone to another safe location in case of data lost. And maybe you are not that much familiar with iTunes, so what should you do to backup iPhone messages without iTunes? If you don't want to use iTunes, you can also use iCloud to backup messages on your iPhone. Initially, iCloud offers Apple users free 5GB storage space and you are able to create and use backups via iCloud from anywhere with Wi-Fi. But please note that iCloud backups don't include the data stored in other cloud services, such as Gmail and Exchange mail, so there may be some iPhone messages being ignored to backup. And iCloud backups also exclude the data that has already stored in iCloud, for example, Contacts, Notes, Calendars, My Photo Stream and iCloud Photo Library. Anyway, you might follow the instruction as below to backup your iPhone message via iCloud.

Here is how:

Step 1. Connect your iPhone to an available Wi-Fi network.

Step 2. Find and tap "Settings" > "iCloud" on your iPhone.

Step 3. Find "Backup" option under iCloud section to turn on the iCloud Backup function.

Step 4. Tap "Back Up Now" and keep your iPhone connected to Wi-Fi network till iCloud finishes to backup all your iPhone data. You might check the backup process or cancel backup in this screen as you like.
